underwater

And here are the sub-aqua shots of joy. There are many pics. Unremitted blast. We were like little kids.

They zoomed. We wallowed. They just laughed at us, and we had no defenses. Thank god they weren't hungry for human.

It emerged as a real high point of the trip. Next time you're in La Paz, definitely take the trip to Los Islotes.

some baja pics

There's a lot to say, but pictures do a pretty good job. And their commentary is rarely as cynical as my own words. So dig:

Near Loreto, Mexico.

Flying in. Bill and I flew the first day to Winnemucca, NV, and it was a poor choice. It was so rough when we landed (at noon) I opted to stay the night. (As pilot, I get to do that.) Not only was it rough going in, but Winnemucca is a depressing scab of a town.

Anyway, so because we only got two hours done the first day, Day 2 Bill and I flew the entire way from Winnemucca to La Paz. Five stops, three of which were in Mexico, so it made for a ten hour day. Mexico stops take T-I-M-E. Always with the papers, and the quadruplicate, and smiles, and pesos. We landed La Paz 6.30 pm. This is almost there, near sunset.

This is the Seascape. If she was a car, she'd be a "lightly maintained" '74 Mercury Montego. It was held together by bailing wire and salt in places, though the engine ran great, and the sails all held air. We fixed more than we broke, and we had a blast on it.

This is Scott.

Particularly excellent guy to travel with. He's in perfect physical condition, ladies, and single. Send me pictures of yourself and I'll send them on to him. (He prefers naked pictures.)

Gargoyle rock formation.

Not a lot more to say about that, really.

On a hike at Partida, where we saw Iguana,
thousands of crabs the size of dimes racing around,
and where suddenly I was overwhelmed by mosquitos.
The only place we saw a mosquito on the whole trip.
This is Greg. It was his birthday. He was my roommate in college. He's a fireman - actually captain of the fireboat in Seattle. Here he burns the shit out of his back while hunting with a spear gun.

Eventually, he made us very proud with the spear gun. We had Triggerfish steaks one night that were out of this world.

This is the Calexico, CA/Mexicali, Mex, border.
I think they want in.

And now... more pictures of places far away

I'm back.
La Paz is amazing.
The trip was perfect.
The pelican is my new totem animal.
More pictures shortly.
