Leaping to conclusions

I was corrected, by someone named 'poote,' that there are actually 366 birthday opportunities. And that is, of course, absolutely right. But I hardly count those 366th people cuz they're so lucky - if I was born leap year, I'd be celebrating my 11th birthday. (Thank you, whoever you are Poote...)

Hooray Hooray for the 8th of May, it's National Outdoors Intercourse Day!

There are 365 options for birthdays. Some are anonymous days - October 6th for example - others are notorious - September 11th stands out - and yet others are just unfair. December 25th would be one of those.

I got National Outdoors Intercourse Day. That puts Tay and Ellie gettin' busy some time in late July or early August of 1960. That sultry summer heat in Menlo Park... Perhaps after a Stanford beer bust, as my folks used to call them. (Kegger to my generation.)

Fascinating to talk about my conception. To me, anyway.

For what else is the 8th of May significant?

- Harry Truman was born on the same date, though significantly before me.
- In '02 Mt. Pelee erupted, killing 30,000
- Iceland gave women the vote in 1911
- Victory was declared against the Huns in 1945 on this date
- This year it's the beginning of national prayer week

I'll be at Lake Chelan with a few friends and four dogs. Fromping al fresco is exceedingly unlikely this year, though. Which simply gives me hope for my next birthday.
