Beautiful day to savagely kill a rat

I just took Red for a walk through the hood, strolling the three blocks to the Sunset Drive overlook. It's damp, a taste of things to come, but the sun is blazing beyond.

And just as I turn away from the view, Red stuffs her head into the little bush in front of us, thrashes to-and-fro, and comes up with a squeeking, wiggling, then ultimately crunching rat.

She did not do this in private, naturally. No, two women were walking their own dogs in either direction. Both saw the commotion. One walked past, looked at the rat in Red's mouth and said, "Wow. Even on the leash. Impressive," and walked on. And the other, a very old woman with her very old dog, slowly walked over and looked at this scene and could only say, "Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh."

You can take the dog out of Wenatchee, but...
