Open season on old lawyers

From the New York Times:

"Mrs. Armstrong...said Mr. Cheney was unaware Mr. Whittington had approached him from behind, as the Texas lawyer had not followed hunting protocol and announced his presence to the other hunters."

I haven't hunted for a long time, so maybe 'protocol' has changed. But it used to be that you approached from behind, quietly, when rejoining your party. Especially 30 yards away, you don't call out, "hey, I'm back!" Being quiet is kind of a necessary trait amongst your hunting cohort.

The real protocol in question here is for the shooter. You always clear the field of shooting, and know your backdrop. If your backdrop is a 78 year old lawyer, you probably should not pull the trigger.

Blaming the old lawyer for getting in the way of Dead Eye Dick's shotgun blast is pathetic. Just call it what it is - Dick screwed up. No big. I'm sure no one's going to sue anyone.

I've seen the T shirt already : "I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than drive with Ted Kennedy"

Now that is cruel.
