This is a Test

LITMUS TEST: a test of a substance to determine its place on a scale from acid on one end to base on the other.

ACID TEST: derived from a procedure developed in the 1800s (using acid) to differentiate gold from other metals.

A litmus test is a graded scale of infinite results. An acid test is an absolute test. All this political talk of "a litmus test" is wrong. In virtually every single instance of its use in the popular media, what is meant is Acid Test.

Next time you get a chance...use the right one and amaze your friends.
